Leonsis’ luck now in Wizards’ corner

Ted Leonsis is the guy who walks into a casino, places 500 bucks on black 18, wins and then keeps on moving. He’s the guy who hits on 16 and draws a 5. He’s the guy who … well, you get the point, don’t you?

First Alex Ovechkin and now John Wall? Any other teams in town want to invite him aboard?

Aside from the likely new Wizards owner, here are the winners and losers from the NBA lottery.

Winners

Wizards » Now the Wizards have someone who can play a more traditional point guard, which is what coach Flip Saunders wants. This allows him to move Gilbert Arenas to more of a shooting guard, assuming he won’t be traded. And it gives the franchise more buzz than they would have had with any other pick. They need more, but it’s a start.

Philadelphia » The Sixers jumped from sixth to second and will be helped by whomever they pick. It should be Evan Turner, whose athleticism makes him an excellent fit. Of course, if the Wiz opt for Turner, then they would get Wall. They’re in a great spot.

Losers

New Jersey » Listen, a guy who buys a yacht for $45 million but doesn’t care if he uses it because he gets seasick can afford a little setback. But if the Nets had won the top pick, it would have given new owner Mikhail Prokhorov more power to perhaps lure a top free agent. Now? The third pick should be a good player, but it won’t transform them into contenders — even with the addition of, say, LeBron James.
