New Jersey Rep. Rush Holt has worked on legislation to preserve the ocean — or legislation to protect sharknadoes, according to Stephen Colbert.
During Monday night’s episode of ‘The Colbert Report,’ the comedian and host featured New Jersey’s 12th in his “Better Know a District” segment. And given Holt’s environmental protection background, Colbert naturally asked about the popular sci-fi movie ‘Sharknado,’ which features a giant tornado/hurricane of sharks.
“Why are you aiding the enemy?” Colbert asked the Congressman.
“The ocean is our friend,” Holt responded.
“Have you seen the movie ‘Sharknado’?” Colbert asked. “Tornadoes made of sharks — that’s what you want to protect.”
“I think sharknadoes don’t exist,” the Congressman said.
The host asked Holt if he would support legislation to prevent future sharknadoes.
“I think there are many important things that we need to deal with and they’re probably more important than that,” the Congressman said.
Colbert also asked Holt about his Senate run and why he wants leave the “do-nothing Congress” and enter a “do-nothing Senate.”
“I want to make it a do-something Senate,” “I want to get there with Elizabeth Warren, with Sherrod Brown, with Tammy Baldwin…”
“Everybody wants to get there with Elizabeth Warren,” Colbert responded cheekily.
