Sen. Ted Cruz and his wife Heidi returned to the restaurant where protesters assailed them earlier this week to finish their “exceptional meal,” according to the owner.
Fiola, the restaurant where protesters confronted Cruz, R-Texas, and his wife while they were dining Monday evening, said it “welcomes all patrons.” The owner said Wednesday that the situation was resolved and Cruz and his wife came back to the restaurant after “a few minutes.”

“Per our policy for events of this nature, police were called and the guest escorted to privacy,” chef and owner Fabio Trabocchi said. “When the situation resolved a few minutes later, our guests returned to thank the staff for their support and to finish their exceptional meal.”
The demonstrators were protesting Cruz’s support for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. While protesters yelled, “Vote no on Kavanaugh” and “Cancel Kavanaugh for women’s rights,” Cruz could be heard saying, “God bless you,” and asked for the crowd to let his wife through as they vacated the D.C. restaurant.
Once Cruz and his wife had exited, the protesters were told to leave by a restaurant employee.
Protests and rallies have emerged around the country’s capital city and in other areas around the country as multiple women have gone public with sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh.
Kavanaugh denies the allegations, and will appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday to testify regarding the accusations by Christine Blasey Ford stemming back 36 years.
