She’s got the eye of the tiger and the voice of the tired, thanks to a White House visit.
Katy Perry stated in a Harper’s Bazaar profile that she turned in a humdrum performance on her world tour thanks to overdoing it at a White House concert just a couple of nights before. From author Laura Brown:
[S]he’s a little low on mojo today. Last night’s concert was “okay,” she says. “It was the first time in this run that my voice was a little hoarse. I think I tried to overperform for the president.” Perry was at the White house two days earlier at a dinner for the Special Olympics, but now she’s looking down on a genteel Boston square, scooping her “boring breakfast” out of a plastic tub. “When I don’t feel like I have my whole range, I really can’t spread my wings. It gets me down a little bit.”
Red Alert, which is proudly a pro-Katy Perry website, assessed her performance of “Roar” at the White House Special Olympics event as four out of four stars. Perry’s hit songs thrive on strong production value and are best suited to the arena rock scene, making her capacity to belt A-grade vocals with restrained accompaniment at the concert all the more impressive.
