Man rescued at Badlands National Park

INTERIOR, S.D. (AP) — Officials used a rope system to lift a 78-year-old man who had fallen more than 40 feet down a steep slope at Badlands National Park in southwestern South Dakota.

The park says the man fell down a slope into a hole Saturday morning about 10 a.m. about five miles from the park’s Ben Reifel Visitor Center.

Rangers were able to lift the man out of the hole. He was transported to a clinic in Philip. In addition to the National Park Service, the Interior Fire Department, Kadoka Ambulance and Wall Ambulance responded.
