Trump enviro ally: Focus on clean air, water, not climate change

Ed Russo will soon find out out if the Trump name is good for the Washington consulting industry.

The Trump Organization’s environmental advisor for 15 years has launched ER Advisors, an environmental consultant firm that plans to help U.S. and foreign firms maneuver through the environmental policies and regulations of the new White House.

Russo, considered for jobs inside the administration, was key in helping Trump develop properties, including golf courses, and hits the links with President Trump. And he tells us that he understands the president’s environmental approach and basis for the cuts to programs inside the Environmental Protection Agency.

“Frustrations with the EPA come from both the business community and environmentalists. There are a significant number of projects that are designed to help the environment that the agency is taking too long to enact,” he said.

“Contrary to what critics may allege, the budget cuts are not designed to allow developers to cut corners and get quicker, or inappropriate, approvals of projects. The strategy is to streamline regulations to increase focus on the priorities – clean air and clean water,” he added.

In defending Trump, he said that the president has been misunderstood when it comes to the environment. Instead of a focus on global warming, he sees a White House focus on removing pollutants and contaminants from the air and water.

“We should not be distracted by something that can’t even be accurately measured. We need to clean up existing brownfields. The Trump environmental policy will be good for the people, the earth and the American economy.”
