An individual crashed a car into the Secret Service security gate outside the White House on Tuesday night.
The incident occurred at 10:37 p.m. at the security checkpoint located at 17th and E St NW, near the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, according to reports. The crash caused a temporary lockdown in the area. President Donald Trump was reportedly in the White House at the time.
The driver has not been identified, and no injuries have been reported. After the crash, the Secret Service released a statement on social media announcing that the driver had been arrested and that an investigation was underway.
“At approximately 10:37 p.m., an individual drove a vehicle into the Secret Service vehicle gate located at 17th & E St, NW, in Washington, DC,” said the U.S. Secret Service Office of Communications.
“The individual was arrested & the vehicle was assessed and deemed safe,” added Secret Service. “Our investigation into the cause of this collision is ongoing.”
