Armed suspect arrested after lockdown at Texas naval air station

Naval Air Station Corpus Christi was briefly placed on lockdown just days after a Saudi national opened fire at another station in Florida, killing three and wounding eight.

Employees there were notified that they needed to shelter in place early Wednesday morning. One person has been arrested, and there were no reports of casualties.

Spokeswoman Francoise “Fifi” Kieschnick said that an armed suspect was spotted near one of the buildings on the base.

Texas A&M University Corpus Christi said the incident had been “contained.” As of 8 a.m. local time, authorities were attempting to determine if the lockdown at the air station should be lifted.

On Friday, 21-year-old Mohammed Alshamrani, a second lieutenant in the Royal Saudi Air Force, killed three sailors and wounded eight more at Naval Air Station Pensacola, where he was training. The shooting is being investigated as an act of terrorism.

About 300 Saudi military aviation students at three different bases have been suspended from flying following the shooting.
