WATCH LIVE: Senate to vote on GOP stopgap bill to end government shutdown

The longest government shutdown in U.S. history is one step closer to coming to an end, with the Senate set to vote on short-term funding that will keep the government operational through Jan. 30, 2026.

The measure requires a simple majority and now heads to the House for final passage, where it is expected to be approved in the coming days. The deal also includes three appropriations bills.

The vote comes after eight members of the Democratic caucus, seven Senate Democrats and Sen. Angus King (I-ME), supported an updated GOP-proposed continuing resolution plan in a test vote Sunday night.

The eight Democrats conceded on their hopes of ushering in an extension of the Obamacare subsidies to the funding deal. Instead, they settled on a promise for a December vote on the subsidies and for a reversal of the Trump administration’s shutdown layoffs.
