Watch: During Clinton rally, Tim Kaine recalls Virginia Tech

Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine showed emotion Saturday as he recalled the 2007 Virginia Tech shooting, which occurred during his tenure as governor.

“April 16, 2007, that was the worst day of my life,” Kaine said in Miami during the campaign rally introducing him as Hillary Clinton’s running mate. “It was the worst day of so many people’s lives. And for the parents and loved ones of those kids and professors, that pain never goes away.

“Precious 17-year-olds, a 70-plus-year-old Lithuanian-born Holocaust survivor who survived the Holocaust — who could survive the Soviet takeover of his country — but who fell victim to gun violence because he blocked the door and told his students to climb out the window as his body was being riddled with bullets.”

Kaine used the story to shift to his and Clinton’s vows for more gun control if they win in November.

“When the vast majority of Americans and a majority of NRA members agree we have to adopt common-sense gun safety measures, Hillary and I will not rest,” Kaine said. “We will not rest!”
