A missing hard drive containing students’ addresses, grades and special services information was recovered in the home of an 8-year-old student.
The Glenkirk Elementary student’s parent turned the device into Prince William County police immediately, and “it is not believed the information contained on the device was accessed or compromised in any way,” Office Jonathan Perok told The Washington Examiner.
Ken Blackstone, a spokesman for Prince William County Public Schools, said he “was not at liberty to say” if any disciplinary action was being considered for the student.
No employees will be reprimanded, Blackstone said.
The Examiner first reported Thursday that an external hard drive containing as many as 1,234 students’ names, addresses, teachers’ names, grades, and special services received had disappeared from Glenkirk Elementary in Gainesville.
The school system and the police were both investigating the missing hard drive.
