Boy, 5, found with body of father in vacant home

A 5-year-old boy and the body of his father were found in a vacant house in Jessup, Howard County police said. A relative of the homeowner checking on the home Saturday found the boy and the body of his father, Najib Malik Abdulla, 26. Police said Abdulla and his son were last seen leaving another home Tuesday following a domestic dispute. No one has been living in the residence in the 8700 block of Mary Lane. It appears Abdulla entered the home by breaking a window, police said. It’s unclear when they entered the home. The cause of Abdulla’s death will be determined after an autopsy. The boy was taken to a hospital and in good condition.

Driver of Brink’s truck sentenced in armed heist

A former Brinks armored truck driver was sentenced to more than six years in prison for helping to rob the vehicle she was driving. During the daylight robbery Tyronda Ferrell, 23, of Hyattsville, and two others held the truck’s guard at gunpoint and escaped with more than $700,000. Under police questioning, Ferrell admitted that before the robbery an acquaintance had threatened to kill her if she did not help him rob the armored car. She admitted that she would receive some of the stolen money, police said. Richard Lee, 32, and David Reddix, 23, of Washington, D.C., pleaded guilty earlier this year to armored car robbery. – Scott McCabe

Correction:

An April 22 story, “Feds: Convicted killer isn’t who he says he is,” incorrectly stated that an illegal immigrant was from Puerto Rico. The man was from the Dominican Republic and used a passport from Puerto Rico to enter the United States illegally. People born in Puerto Rico are U.S. citizens.
