Politifact has rated Donald Trump’s claims about Trump University as “false.”
Senator Marco Rubio has been hammering Trump on a daily basis, calling him a “con artist” and saying at the last GOP debate that “there are people who borrowed $36,000 to go to Trump University, and they’re suing now. $36,000 to go to a university that’s a fake school.’’
‘‘And you know what they got? They got to take a picture with a cardboard cutout of Donald Trump,’’ he said.
Rubio exaggerated very little in his barbs. He also ignored the legal attempts Trump made to silence disgruntled and unsatisfied students of Trump University.
Trump responded over the weekend, telling Chuck Todd on Meet the Press that “We have an A from the Better Business Bureau.” Trump University (renamed the Trump Entrepreneur Initiative in 2010) has no rating from the BBB anymore. The only rating that Politifact could find was a D- in 2010. The BBB issued a statement that the business, during its existence, had grades ranging from A to D-.
“Trump’s claim is literally wrong and also ignores the university’s lower Better Business Bureau scores,” Politifact declared.
This isn’t the first time that Trump has provided false information about his record, or general facts. Of the 100 statements from Trump checked by Politifact, 78 percent were rated “mostly false,” “false,” or “pants on fire.” Only one has received a “true” rating, where Trump cited an American poll that showed Russian President Vladimir Putin with an 80 percent approval rating.
