Donald Trump trails Hillary Clinton in North Carolina and is in a dead heat in Ohio according to a new poll taken after a leaked video showed him making lewd remarks on a hot microphone in 2005.
According to the latest NBC/Wall Street Journal poll released Thursday, Clinton leads Trump by 4 points in North Carolina, taking 45 percent support to Trump’s 41 percent. Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson earns 9 percent.
In Ohio, Trump holds a slim 1-point lead over the former secretary in Ohio. The GOP nominee leads with 42 percent backing to Clinton’s 41 percent. Johnson pulls 9 percent support, while the Green Party’s Jill Stein takes 4 percent.
The two states have become must-haves for the GOP nominee who faces an increasingly narrow path to 270 electoral, along with Pennsylvania and Florida.
The two state polls of likely voters were taken from Oct. 10-12 and have a margin of error of +/- 3.6 percent.
On the Senate side, North Carolina Sen. Richard Burr is tied with Democratic challenger Deborah Ross at 46 percent in a race the incumbent Republican has been unable to put away.
In Ohio, Republican Sen. Rob Portman continues to hold a substantial lead over Democratic former Gov. Ted Strickland, taking 55 percent to Strickland’s 38 percent.
