With the economy still struggling to regain its footing, Phoebe Greenberg’s film “Next Floor” — a dreamlike 12-minute indictment of our consumer culture’s “endless symphony of abundance” chosen as the Best Short Film at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival — is nearly as topical as it is hypnotic.

Peter Greenaway, the director of challenging, formally immaculate films like “Prospero’s Books” and “The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover” is an evident point of reference for Greenberg’s visually sumptuous, morality tale.

Gluttony may be its subject, but this film is a feast.
