Report: FBI expands probe to Clinton Foundation

FBI agents have reportedly expanded their investigation of Hillary Clinton’s private email use to include an examination of the Clinton Foundation’s activities.

The law enforcement agency is looking into allegations of “public corruption” in light of suggestions that foundation insiders were given preferential treatment by the State Department, Fox News reported Monday.

“[M]any previous public corruption cases have been made and successfully prosecuted with much less evidence than what is emerging in this investigation,” one intelligence official said, according to the report.

More than 1,300 emails have been made classified by the State Department before their release, signaling a high volume of sensitive material was among the records Clinton turned over in Dec. 2014.

Clinton dismissed suggestions that she had instructed an aide to remove the classified markings from a document and “send it nonsecure” in an email made public Friday that reignited speculation over her handling of classified records.

However, FBI agents have given no indication they plan to slow their probe of Clinton’s emails, and have now hinted they plan to expand their investigation to the network of donors that fueled the Clinton Foundation while Clinton served as secretary of state.
