President Trump said the Democrats are beating the impeachment drum again.
In a pair of tweets Saturday, Trump said the Democrats were discouraged by former special counsel Robert Mueller’s shaky testimony last week, but are regrouping for another push for an impeachment inquiry.
“The Democrats were trying mightily to revive the badly & irrevocably tarnished Witch Hunt Hoax until Robert Mueller put on the greatest display of ineptitude & incompetence that the Halls of Congress have ever seen. Truth is, he had no facts on his side. Nothing he could do!” Trump said. “The Dems are now coming out of shock from the terrible Mueller performance, and are starting to spin impeachment all over again. How sick & disgusting and bad for our Country are they. What they are doing is so wrong, but they do it anyway. Dems have become the do nothing Party!”

Despite Trump’s warning, action on impeachment is no sure thing. There is a growing rift between Democratic leaders on the issue.
Over two hearings before the House Judiciary and Intelligence committees on Wednesday, Mueller looked confused during parts of the hearing and failed to recall key facts from his report.
Democrats now find themselves at an impasse on whether to engage in an impeachment inquiry against the president. Although the number of Democrats backing impeachment proceedings against Trump has grown to roughly 100, a poll out Friday shows Mueller’s testimony on the Russia investigation did little to move the needle on support for such action.
Although House Speaker Nancy Pelosi remains against impeachment, House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler gave a different signal at a Friday press conference. He said the Judiciary Committee has “in effect” begun an impeachment inquiry.
Nadler filed court documents Friday seeking grand jury material from the Mueller report, which Mueller was required under the law to withhold from the public. In them, Nadler said, “articles of impeachment are under consideration as part of the Committee’s investigation, although no final determination has been made.”
Trump trolled his Democratic rival from New York with a mocking video Friday evening. The short clip, which features a sorrowful tune, zooms in on a solemn-looking Nadler during a Democratic leadership press conference.
The video then shows Trump saying, “The Democrats had nothing. And now they have less than nothing.”

Rep. Jackie Speier of California told CNN last week that if a majority of House Democrats do not support an impeachment inquiry by the end of the August recess, it will be time to “shut it down.”
