The FBI asked the public to share any information about James Hodgkinson, the deceased attacker who opened fire at a Republican congressional baseball game practice in Alexandria, Va., early Wednesday.
“Law enforcement has reason to believe that the shooter has been in Alexandria, Va. area since March of this year. The FBI has issued a seeking information poster that’s located on our website, asking the public to come forward with information on the shooter,” FBI Special Agent in Charge Tim Slater said in a press conference Wednesday evening.
Hodgkinson, 66, died at a local hospital from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso, Slater said.
The suspect had resided in Belleville, Ill., until moving to Alexandria in March. He had lived in a white cargo van in the vicinity of East Monroe Street, the same street as the incident of the shooting at Eugene Simpson Stadium Park.
“To the local Alexandria community, we believe that the shooter has been living out of his vehicle in the vicinity of East Monroe Street; therefore, asking you to report any interactions that you may have had with him,” Slater said. “Likewise, the subject traveled from his residence in Illinois, and we are asking and speaking with individuals who know him personally or who have may encountered him on their travels.”
The FBI released a “seeking information” flyer about Hodgkinson shortly before the press conference.
The congressional baseball game is scheduled to take place at its original time, 7:05 p.m. Thursday at Nationals Stadium in Washington, D.C.
The shooting wounded four, including House Majority Whip Steve Scalise who remains in critical condition, and two others were injured during the incident.
