Trump would replace Fed Chairwoman Janet Yellen

Donald Trump said he would likely replace Janet Yellen when her term is up as Federal Reserve chair.

“I have nothing against Janet Yellen whatsoever. She’s been doing her job and I have absolutely nothing against her,” the presumed Republican nominee said on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” Thursday morning. “I don’t know her, she’s a very capable person, people that I know have a very high regard for her.”

Trump then made it apparent that the move would be a political one and not because of her monetary policies.

“She’s not a Republican […] When her time is up, I would most likely replace her because of the fact that I think it would be appropriate,” he explained.

Trump added that he agrees with her low-interest rate policies: “She’s a low interest-rate person, she’s always been a low interest-rate person, and I must be honest, I’m a low interest rate person. If we raise interest rates, and if the dollar starts getting too strong, we’re going to have some very major problems.”

Trump has hinted before that as president, he would not reinstate her when her term ends in February 2018.

The latest RealClearPolitics average of polls of a general election matchup, Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton leads Trump by a 47.3 percent to 40.8 percent.
