The show must go on: CNN interview takes a painfully awkward turn

CNN’s Brooke Baldwin was forced to carry on an awkward interview Wednesday afternoon after her guest, actor Jay Thomas, joked about pro-North Korea operatives assassinating embattled actors James Franco and Seth Rogen.

Rogen and Franco star in Sony Pictures’ anti-North Korea comedy “The Interview,” which has been cancelled indefinitely due to threats from the Hermit Kingdom.

And prior to Sony announcing its decision to cancel the movie’s Dec. 25 release date, the top theater chains in the U.S. announced that they would not show the movie following warnings that screenings would be met with acts of terror.

Referring to news that theaters had decided to not show the movie, and the fact that the film’s leads have cancelled all media appearances in response to threats from anti-Sony hackers, Thomas suggested that it’d be a “great end to their careers” if Rogen and Franco were killed while promoting the controversial film.

“If they do strike James Franco and Seth Rogen,” he said, “what a great end to their careers.”

Baldwin didn’t respond.

“They made a movie, they kept their integrity, and they caused the guy to launch a missile,” Thomas continued.

Baldwin turned to face the camera, a look of silent desperation etched on her face.
