The Democratic National Committee slammed the “desperate and dying campaign” of Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz on Wednesday after news broke that he is expected to choose ex-White House hopeful Carly Fiorina as his running mate.
“It’s fitting that a man best known for shutting down the U.S. government would select a woman best known for almost shutting down a great U.S. company,” DNC chief executive Amy Dacey said in a statement.
Dacey continued, “In a dangerous and complex world, the only foreign policy experience Carly Fiorina can speak of is outsourcing American jobs to other countries and selling computer equipment to Iran in violation of international sanctions.”
Fiorina, who ended her own White House bid after back-to-back losses in the earliest two primaries, was hit hard by the DNC back in September over her heated criticism of Planned Parenthood.
The former Hewlett-Packard CEO endorsed Cruz just days ahead of the March 15 nominating contests in Florida and Ohio, and has since joined him and his wife separately on the campaign trail in several states.
Cruz currently trails GOP front-runner Donald Trump by more than 400 delegates and is mathematically incapable of becoming the Republican nominee on the first ballot.
