Gary Johnson on terror threat: FBI ‘dropped the ball’

Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson said law enforcement’s swift identification of the New York City bombing suspect indicates that “we’ve got a system that’s working,” but said the failure to prevent these attacks from taking place indicates the FBI “dropped the ball.”

“Already we have a suspect who has been identified, to me what that says is we’ve got a system that is working,” he said. But he said there is “obviously some improvement that could take place.”

“I would love to sit down with the FBI right now and understand from them what direction they would like to take forward. Clearly, they dropped the ball. I would suspect that they recognize that better than anyone else,” Johnson said.

“We all have to work to see these threats, to see actions like this, not occur in the future.”

The FBI named 28-year-old Ahmad Khan Rahami as a suspect in connection with the attack that occurred in the city this weekend and investigators have launched a manhunt. He was reportedly apprehended shortly after 11 a.m. on Monday. Though the investigation is ongoing, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he believes the incident is an act of terror with a “possible foreign connection.”
