A Savage beating in WDCGA

For the fifth time in six years, Shelley Savage has won the Women’s District of Columbia Golf Association Championship. Savage (Army Navy) beat Shawn McCullough (Mount Vernon) 2 and 1 in the championship match Thursday at Chantilly.

Over the last three days, Savage, who was seeded No. 1, won five match-play rounds to continue her dominance of the event.

Savage won her first WDCGA title in 1992, then didn’t win another until 2005. Her six titles is a record in the event, which dates to 1929. Her opponent in the finals, Shawn McCullough, won three times in a five-year span (1989-93).
