Nebraska hospital discharges five patients monitored for Ebola

A Nebraska hospital has discharged five healthcare workers who were being monitored for Ebola after none of the patients showed signs of the disease after their quarantine periods ended.

The five workers were evacuated from West Africa earlier this month after coming into contact with another healthcare worker who has the disease. There are still 10 people who are being monitored in different parts of the country for signs of Ebola.

The healthcare worker with Ebola is being treated at the National Institutes of Health’s Bethesda, Md., facility, and the agency recently said the patient’s condition is improving.

The Nebraska Medical Center said on Twitter late Tuesday that four of the patients have left the Omaha area and a fifth, which had an undisclosed heart problem, is expected to leave soon.

The quarantine period for Ebola is 21 days.

So far the disease has infected more than 23,000 people and killed more than 10,000, primarily in West Africa.
