Remember him?: Lincoln Chafee is no longer running for president

Former R.I. Gov. Lincoln Chafee is no longer running for president. His decision to withdraw from the race received almost as little attention as his campaign did.

CNN reported that he made the announcement on Friday:

“As you know, I have been campaigning on a platform of Prosperity Through Peace,” Chafee said at the DNC’s annual Women’s Leadership Forum in Washington. “But after much thought I have decided to end my campaign for president today. I would like to take this opportunity one last time to advocate for a chance be given to peace.”

On Thursday, Chafee mentioned the forum on Twitter, and hinted that he would be dropping out.

Saturday Night Live may have also jokingly and unintentionally predicted Chafee’s departure. During the Oct. 17 episode re-creation of the first Democratic debate, Kyle Mooney playing Chafee quipped “well, goodnight America, bye forever!”

While polling at less than 1 percent, Chafee was certainly a long-shot candidate. His departure came the same week as Sen. Jim Webb’s and when vice-president Joe Biden announced he’s not running. The next debate will likely feature three candidates then, and further solidifies Hillary’s chances as the Democratic nominee.
