Kamala Harris reports steady fundraising numbers of $11M amid campaign shuffle

Kamala Harris raised $11.6 million in the third financial quarter of 2019 as Democratic presidential candidates ramp up for the fall, according to her campaign.

The senator for California, whose overall fundraising haul is on par with her efforts in the first two quarters of this year, also reported having $10 million cash on hand, with the average donation being $34. In the first quarter, she raised $12 million, adding $11.8 million in the second.

“This is a campaign that is growing, expanding, and built to win this primary,” campaign manager Juan Rodriguez said in a statement, referring to investments specifically in Iowa and South Carolina. “As we have spent the summer months strengthening our infrastructure, we enter this final stretch of 2019 with ample resources to execute a winning game plan.”

The figures, well short of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’ $25.3 million and South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg’s $19.1 million, is good news for her operation, which this week underwent a staffing shuffle as the two-term California state attorney general tries to overcome a summer slump in primary polls. She’s ahead of New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker and his more than $6 million war chest. Booker had threatened to drop out of the race if he didn’t raise $1.7 million in the last 10 days before the Federal Elections Commission deadline of Sept. 30.

Harris this week brought senior adviser Laphonza Butler and her Senate chief of staff, Rohini Kosoglu, onto her campaign on a permanent basis. Rodriguez will continue in the top post, but will focus on the budget and longer-term planning as Kosoglu and Butler oversee the team’s various departments.
