Two employees who are in charge of all operations of the House and Senate office buildings were placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into inappropriate emails.
House Building Superintendent Bill Weidemeyer and Senate Building Superintendent Takis Tzamaras have been put on leave, an Architect of the Capitol representative told Roll Call on Thursday.
It was not immediately clear what the emails contained.
The Architect of the Capitol did not immediately respond to the Washington Examiner’s request for confirmation.
“I will continue to advocate for a safe work environment for all who work in the Legislative Branch. Though we await the outcome of this pending investigation, I expect the acting Architect of the Capitol to take swift disciplinary action should any employee be found of wrongdoing,” said Rep. Rodney Davis, R-Ill., a ranking member of the House Administration Committee, said in a statement.
Weidemeyer and Tzamaras work under acting Architect of the Capitol Christine Merdon, who has served in the position since November 2018, when Stephen Ayers retired.
Weidemeyer is in charge of operations for the Cannon, Ford, Longworth, Rayburn, and O’Neill House Office Buildings, as well as underground garages and subways. He was appointed to the role in 2008. Tzamaras leads operations for the Russell, Dirksen, and Hart Senate Office Buildings, subway systems, and the Senate congressional page school and dormitory. He has been in the role since 2014.
