Obama lectures press: Don’t file ‘false reports’ on terror probe

President Obama on Monday warned the press not to get ahead of the investigation into the weekend bombings in New York and New Jersey, and said filing “false reports” about what happened wouldn’t help.

“The press [should] try to refrain from getting out ahead of the investigation,” Obama said. “I’m extraordinarily happy with the cooperation that is taking place between the FBI and the state and local law enforcement officials. They are moving smartly on this investigation.”

“It does not help if false reports or incomplete information is out there,” he added. “So try as much as possible to stick to what our investigators say because they know what they are talking about.”

Obama issued that warning in his first remarks about the bombings, after he released no remarks over the weekend.
