A former Obama administration official is suggesting that Canadian authorities arrest members of the Freedom Convoy and encouraging people to “slash the tires” of their trucks.
Juliette Kayyem, who was assistant secretary of homeland security for intergovernmental affairs under President Barack Obama, tweeted the message Thursday in response to footage showing trucks creating gridlock on the Ambassador Bridge, which links the United States and Canada.
“Slash the tires, empty gas tanks, arrest the drivers, and move the trucks,” Kayyem wrote.
The convoy protest, applauded by right wing media as a “freedom protest,” is an economic and security issue now. The Ambassador Bridge link constitutes 28% of annual trade movement between US and Canada. Slash the tires, empty gas tanks, arrest the drivers, and move the trucks ✔️ https://t.co/nvRQTfPWir

The trucker protest began roughly two weeks ago and has expanded to include demonstrations against all manner of COVID-19 rules in Canada. Some demonstrators have settled in the Canadian capital of Ottawa, leading the mayor to declare a state of emergency and warn of arrests. The protests have led to blockades at three U.S.-Canada border crossings.
