The future is now. The unique electronic music of the Pnuma Trio, recently called the “music of the future” by Art Voice magazine, comes to The 8×10 in Baltimore tonight.
“[Their music] is a cross between trance, techno, electronica, funk and jam band,” said Brian Shupe, the owner of The 8×10. “It?s really more about soundscapes, but with good, strong writing behind it. They are one of the few bands that are not just mindlessly jamming for four hours straight.”
The Pnuma Trio consists of Alex Botwin on bass, Ben Hazelgrove on keys and Lane Shaw on drums. Ryan Burnett, of the band Signal Path, will be a guest star tonight.
The trio has been touring nonstop almost since they began in Tennessee in December of 2004 and has shared the stage with the Disco Biscuits, Lotus, Zilla and more.
Performing in more than 150 shows, the trio was the only American band to play at the Exodus Festival 2006 in Australia.
Their first album, released in May 2006, is a live cut from various shows titled “Live from Out There.” They were recently invited to perform in the String Cheese Incident?s seventh annual Sea of Dreams New Year?s Eve Event and in the Terrapin Winter Jamfest.
“Pnuma Trio is always reinventing their sound. They continually delve deeper into computer generated electronica while keeping trance, hip-hop and house alive, equal and collective,” said Sarah Coffield, the band?s publicist. “With a live album out, the band is eager to put something down in the studio.”
