Rick Perry: Only vet in the 2016 race — ‘And that matters’

Texas Gov. Rick Perry is coming down hard on all other potential 2016 presidential candidates for having no military experience, using a new video to highlight his service as something that gives him an edge in the campaign — and being commander in chief.

“At this particular point in time, looking at the field, there’s only one individual who’s ever had the uniform of this country on and that’s me — and it matters,” he said in the video cut for his political action committee RickPAC.

Perry was a C-130 pilot in the Air Force, serving about five years and leaving as a captain.

He distributed the video in an email Monday with this message:

Dear Friend,

This past Friday I had the great opportunity to be at CPAC where I spoke about my vision for a new era of prosperity and reform in America.

I urge you to watch and share this video RickPAC just released from our recent travels where the message was heard loud and clear: Americans are tired of President Obama’s failed leadership at home and abroad.

One look at a newspaper and its clear our country faces challenges at home and abroad. And while I may quarrel with my government, I love my country.

There is nothing wrong in America today that can’t be fixed with a change in leadership. Together let’s roll up our sleeves, get America back to work, & revive this great nation once again!

All the best–

Governor Rick Perry
