Chef Jose Andres, a vocal critic of President Trump, invited members of the Philadelphia Eagles and their fans, who were supposed to visit the White House Tuesday to celebrate the team’s Super Bowl win, to eat for free at his new Georgetown restaurant.
“People of Philadelphia! @Eagles if you are in @washingtondc stop by @AmericaEatsTvrn in Georgetown! The way to celebrate America is loving each other. And not creating non existent fights. If you came to WH celebration stop at the bar tell the bartender, and food is on me! #USA,” Andres tweeted Tuesday.

President Trump announced late Monday that the Eagles’ visit to the White House was canceled. Several members of the team had opted not to attend because of the president’s stance on players who kneel for the national anthem.
The White House defended its decision to cancel the Super Bowl celebration on Tuesday, saying the team decided to “abandon its fans.”
In lieu of the Eagles’ visit, Trump instead hosted a “Celebration of America” to “honor our great country, pay tribute to the heroes who fight to protect it, and loudly and proudly play the national anthem.”
Andres has frequently criticized Trump’s immigration policies and the administration’s response to Hurricane Maria, which devastated Puerto Rico last year.
The celebrity chef was supposed to open a restaurant at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, but Andres pulled out of the deal after Trump made derogatory comments about Mexicans in 2015.
Trump sued the celebrity chef for breach of contract and Andres’ Think Food Group countersued.
The Trump Organization and Think Food Group settled their legal battle last year.
