Take 5 April 29 – May 1

Sunday: Mamapalooza at Union Jack’s Bethesda This weekend in Bethesda, moms will rock.

No, not in the “You rock mom!” sort of way like she just bought your favorite cereal. This is good old-fashioned rock ‘n’ roll.

On Sunday at Union Jack’s Pub is Mamapalooza, a celebration of motherhood through music.

“I’m a middle-aged suburban mom with a husband and two kids. I always wanted to do rock music but didn’t have the nerve,” said 57-year-old Patrice Moerman, the local Mamapalooza organizer, explaining how she got involved with the group back in 2005.

Mamapalooza is simply a concert made up of performers who are mostly mothers, many of whom who don’t play live frequently.

“It’s really just a chance for women who don’t play out as much,” said Moerman, who will also be performing. “It’s kind of an image thing,”

A number of moms are scheduled to perform at the free show at Union Jack’s on Sunday, and they will be accepting donations for Suited for Change, an area nonprofit.

Plus, it’s one week from Mother’s Day.
