Multiple people were injured after the driver of a U-Haul truck plowed through an anti-Iranian regime protest in Los Angeles on Sunday.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said two were injured after the incident, but they both declined transport. The protest was held in solidarity with anti-regime protests across Iran and took place in the Westwood neighborhood of the city.
Officials have not yet reported any arrests in connection with the incident, but U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli said the FBI is also investigating.
“This is an active investigation and we will update the public when we have more information,” Essayli said.
The incident comes as protests in Iran have reached the two-week mark. Beginning as unrest over a struggling economy, the protests have turned into larger calls for the toppling of the regime itself and have caught the attention of President Donald Trump.
TRUMP WEIGHING ‘VERY STRONG OPTIONS’ FOR US RESPONSE ON IRAN AS PROTEST DEATH TOLL SWELLS
On Sunday night, Trump said he is weighing “very strong options” to respond, which he has vowed to do if Iran kills protesters.
According to multiple U.S.-based human rights groups, the death toll from the protests across Iran is now over 500, while tens of thousands have also been arrested.
