‘I voted for a guy named Trump’: President casts ballot in Florida

With little more than a week to Election Day, President Trump cast an early vote at a polling place in Florida on Saturday morning for himself to continue on as president of the United States.

Throngs of supporters lined the streets outside of Palm Beach County’s main library in West Palm Beach to catch a glimpse of Trump, who was wearing a mask and flanked by a team of bodyguards, entering the polling station. In the end, Trump voted for his favorite person.

“I voted for a guy named Trump,” the president said on the walk to his limousine.

The president’s vote represents the first time that he has voted in-person in Florida’s 21st Congressional District since establishing residence in the area several years ago. In 2016, Trump and first lady Melania Trump voted at a public school in New York City.

Trump noted the importance of voting in-person, a familiar refrain from his campaign during an unprecedented election season during which the number of mail-in ballots will be the highest in history due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“It was a very secure vote, much more secure than when you can send in a ballot. I can tell you that,” Trump said. “It’s an honor to be voting, an honor to be in this great area.”

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany shared a 7-second clip of the president leaving the polling place to what she claimed were “audible chants of ‘4 more years.” Video from outside the polling place showed a large group of Trump fans waving flags and yelling optimistic messages to the president.

Trump quickly boarded Air Force One ahead of a grueling final stretch to Election Day, which will see him zigzag across the country to appear at multiple campaign rallies a day from New Hampshire to Nevada.
