The Virginia Lottery on Friday announced that it will make changes to ensure its products are accessible to the disabled in the wake of a 2005 lawsuit.
The suit was filed on behalf of several people with disabilities who claimed they were unable to enter stores to purchase lottery products. In 2009, the Virginia Supreme Court ruled that the lottery must operate in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
All new lottery locations will now have to comply with the ADA within 12 months of having their license activated, and current retail locations will be surveyed every three years, with their lottery license at risk of suspension if necessary modifications aren’t made.
