This is actually kind of funny. A guy who received a $80 million contract but has yet to deliver a single playoff series win called another contract “ridiculous.” But Carmelo Anthony is right: Houston’s offer sheet to point guard Jeremy Lin is ridiculous.
Here’s what Anthony said when asked about the contract and whether the New York Knicks would match it: “It’s up to the organization to say that they want to match that ridiculous contract.”
However, it seems as if Lin’s time in New York is over as the Knicks traded for point guard Raymond Felton and already have signed Jason Kidd.
From a pure basketball standpoint, it’s highly debatable whether Lin will be worth the money. But his popularity at least will help a little bit, especially with Houston a team already popular in Asia because of Yao Ming. To stay popular, however, Lin will have to be more than a one- or two-month wonder.
