The National Arboretum’s bald eagles laid an egg, according to a Thursday social media post.
The female eagle, LOTUS, Lady of the United States, laid the egg, with Mr. President, the arboretum’s male eagle, according to a report.
The eagles were recently the topic of controversy after LOTUS forced The First Lady, another female eagle, from the nest, the report noted.

This is the first time LOTUS is incubating an egg, and it is the first time in years that one of its eagles has laid one, the arboretum said.
LOTUS and Mr. President are not the only pair of eagles incubating an egg, according to the report.

Rosa and Martin, the eagles of Dulles Greenway, recently laid two eggs of their own, which should hatch on about March 8.
