Mudslides cut access to Southern California towns

OAK GLEN, Calif. (AP) — Southern California thunderstorms have brought flash floods and thick debris flows that blocked access to two mountain towns.

Authorities said about 1,500 residents of Oak Glen, and about 1,000 residents of Forest Falls in the San Bernardino Mountains are unable to get out because of the debris flows.

A San Bernardino County Fire spokesman said the stranded include 500 people who had arrived at a Forest Falls campground Sunday morning.

Crews were using bulldozers to clear the roads.

Monsoonal moisture brought brief but fierce storms to mountain, desert and inland areas. Flash floods led to the rescue of at least two people and damaged several homes and vehicles.
