A good Samaritan in New York City took a beating and was mugged Wednesday after attempting to give his coat to a homeless man.
The victim, a 59-year-old man, approached 25-year-old Xavier Israel around 8:40 a.m., according to a report. Israel was curled up on the sidewalk when the victim covered him with his jacket, footage of the incident shows.

Instead of thanking the good Samaritan, Israel jumped to his feet, pushed the man down, and took his wallet.

The victim stood up and tried to take his wallet back, but Israel shifted to his right and delivered a straight right to the good Samaritan’s jaw that put him down again. The man made a final futile effort to retrieve his wallet but was overpowered, and Israel fled the scene.
Israel was arrested shortly after, and police said they recovered close to $1,500 stuffed down his pants.
The good Samaritan did not accept any medical attention after the incident, the report noted. Israel faces multiple charges, including assault, robbery, and grand larceny.

Wednesday’s incident was reportedly not the first time Israel has attacked someone who offered him assistance. He allegedly struck a 49-year-old woman who wanted to help him Saturday and attacked two people in Central Park on Jan. 2, the report noted.
