Two killed in separate D.C. crashes

D.C. police are investigating the deaths of a motor scooter driver and a pedestrian in separate incidents late Wednesday. Around 11 p.m., a scooter in the intersection of 16th and Emerson streets NW hit a curb and crashed into a light pole. The man driving it died at the scene.,

At 8 p.m., a pedestrian was struck on Route 295 by the driver of a 2002 Chevrolet. The incident occurred one and a half miles south of exit one southwest.

D.C. man admits to stealing

from dead family friend

A Washington man who was caught on videotape with his mother looting silver from a dead friend in Connecticut pleaded guilty to larceny, the Connecticut Post reported.

Mark Hobson, 53, was given a suspended three-year jail sentence and three years probation.

Hobson and his 83-year-old mother were arrested after the family of Carol Fernow set up a camera to find out who had been stealing $50,000 worth of valuables from her Westport home. On the morning of Fernow’s funeral, the family told Hobson and his mother that they were going on an errand and would be back in an hour.

Two minutes later, video cameras showed Hobson removing silver platters and holding them up for his mother’s inspection.

Prince William County murder suspect turned himself in

A 21-year-old Manassas man turned himself in Thursday after being charged with murder in an August killing, police said.

Deonte Donnell Robertson allegedly beat 34-year-old Sergio Alfonso to death on Aug. 14. According to police, Robertson was arguing with his 23-year-old estranged ex-girlfriend on the 8100 block of Community Drive when her husband, Sergio, intervened and was attacked by Donnell.
