Rep. Eric Swalwell’s (D-CA) political career is collapsing in spectacular fashion. It is proof that politics isn’t fully immune to instances of well-deserved karma.
Swalwell is facing several sexual assault allegations, one of which is from a former staffer. His fellow Democrats cut ties completely and immediately, with liberal journalists confirming that Swalwell’s alleged behavior toward women was apparently an open secret in liberal circles for years. As a result, Swalwell has suspended his campaign for governor of California, where he was the leading Democrat in polling and thus the odds-on favorite for the job.

DOES IT MATTER THAT ERIC SWALWELL IS MARRIED?
Swalwell’s political career should effectively be over. He won’t be the next governor of California (though his name will appear on the ballot). He can’t jump back into the race for his House district, as the filing deadline has passed. He may not even last until his replacement is sworn in in January, as the House is now considering expelling him (along with a few other members). On top of that, he is facing a criminal investigation from left-wing Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg over these sexual assault allegations, and a separate investigation by the federal government into his alleged employment of an illegal immigrant, whom he may have been paying with campaign funds.
It’s a fitting end to the career of one of the most toxic politicians in public life. Swalwell’s “resistance” act has made politics worse at every turn, from the clearly fabricated persona he built using staged interactions for social media to his toxic partisanship that stretched far beyond acceptable politicking. Swalwell, all as part of his act, has accused Republicans of wanting to ban interracial marriage and of being on the side of mass shooters. Swalwell was happy to lie about easily verifiable facts to push his political agenda, which was power at all costs for both himself and the Democratic Party.
JAYAPAL BACKS EXPELLING SWALWELL AND GONZALES OVER SEXUAL MISCONDUCT ALLEGATIONS
Better yet, Swalwell has been hoisted by his own petard, based on the standard he set out during the confirmation battle over Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Swalwell was among those who pushed the fabricated allegations against Kavanaugh, smearing him with not a single shred of evidence that Kavanaugh ever even met the women accusing him. To make matters worse, Swalwell then mocked Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) when she said she was receiving threats over the Kavanaugh vote, when those threats were coming from the Democratic activists that ghouls like Swalwell were whipping into a frenzy based on false accusations.
If this is the end of Swalwell, as it should be, it couldn’t happen to a worse politician. Swalwell traded any semblance of dignity and respect for others in the pursuit of political power, and it has come crashing down for him in spectacular fashion as he sat on the verge of reaching it. It is proof that, even in politics, the bad guy doesn’t always avoid consequences for their heinous behavior. Sometimes, the chickens come home to roost after all.
