Los Angeles bans Halloween festivities because it is ‘difficult to maintain proper social distancing’

There will be no trick-or-treating in Tinseltown this October.

In a guideline released ahead of Halloween, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health said residents will not be permitted to participate in any form of trick-or-treating, whether door to door or car to car, because of the coronavirus.

“Door-to-door trick-or-treating is not allowed because it can be very difficult to maintain proper social distancing on porches and at front doors especially in neighborhoods that are popular with trick or treaters,” the guidelines state. “‘Trunk-or-treating’ events where children go from car to car instead of door to door to receive treats are also not allowed.”

The guidelines suggested holiday revelers consider participating in the celebration by holding an event online or dressing up homes and yards.

“Since some of the traditional ways in which this holiday is celebrated does not allow you to minimize contact with non-household members, it is important to plan early and identify safer alternatives,” the guideline added.
