Trump meets Obama at the White House

President Obama and President-elect Donald Trump met Thursday at the White House, their first meeting since Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in Tuesday’s election.

Trump and his wife Melania arrived at around 11 a.m. at the White House, and were expected to get an extensive tour and talk about the transition.

Trump and Obama relentlessly criticized each other during the election — Trump spent much of the last 18 months railing against Obama on social media and on the campaign trail, while Obama slammed Trump as unfit for the presidency during his stump speeches for Clinton. However, Obama has stressed the importance of a seamless transition regardless of who wins.

First lady Michelle Obama and Melania Trump will also hold their own meeting at the White House Thursday afternoon.

Trump’s meeting with Obama will be followed by a meeting with House Speaker Paul Ryan, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
