House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul, R-Texas, said Sunday he expects Iran to retaliate in some way for President Trump’s decision to pull out of the Iran nuclear agreement.
“I do anticipate there will probably be some sort of retaliation by Iran,” he said on Fox News.
McCaul wasn’t specific, but he noted that Iran conducted cyberattacks against the U.S. financial sector in 2011.
He noted that since the U.S. left the deal, Iranian officials have been seen chanting “death to America,” and that there was a military clash between Israel and Iranian forces in Syria. McCaul also said Iran has been ramping up its military.
McCaul also predicted that Europe would also choose the leave the deal as it faces the threat of U.S. sanctions for doing business with Iran. He said when given the choice of keeping up those business relations with Iran or siding with the U.S., “they’re going to pick the United States.”
