RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Virginia’s delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives appears unlikely to change after the Nov. 6 election.
University of Richmond political analyst Dan Palazzolo says all 11 incumbents are favored to win in districts that were redrawn to their advantage after the 2010 census. Republicans hold an 8-3 advantage.
Palazzolo says the only race that is even marginally competitive is in Hampton Roads, where Democrat Paul Hirschbiel is running a well-financed challenge against Republican Rep. Scott Rigell.
The last two congressional elections in Virginia were much more dramatic. In 2008, Democrats gained three seats to take a 6-5 advantage. In the midterm election two years later, the GOP regained its 8-3 edge.
