Wizards work out five more players

Iowa State’s Brackins heads list of possible second-round picks

The Wizards continued predraft workouts on Tuesday, bringing in five players — notably Craig Brackins, a 6-foot-10, 230-pound forward from Iowa State.

Brackins — a projected second-round pick — may not be known by most basketball fans, but his potential has scouts intrigued. A versatile player who can play both the perimeter and post, Brackins has a nice shooting touch from midrange and can beat slower post players off the dribble. He was a productive player at a weaker collegiate program, averaging 16 points and 7.7 rebounds per game in three seasons with the Cyclones.

Wizards noteOhio State standout Evan Turner has declined a workout with the Wizards. Turner’s agent, David Falk, was not receptive to workout invitations, believing the Wizards will take John Wall with the No. 1 overall pick.

Guard Armon Bassett (Ohio), small forward Landry Fields (Stanford) and small-school standouts Duke Crews (Bowie State) and Tyren Johnson (Louisiana-Lafayette) also worked out at Verizon on Tuesday. Bassett, a former Indiana transfer, is a solid scoring guard who carved up Georgetown in the opening round of the NCAA tournament in March. His size — 6-foot-2, 180 pounds — is expected to be a deterrent in the draft, as he isn’t a pure point guard.

Fields had a very productive senior season, averaging 22 points and 8.8 rebounds a game. He could sneak into the second round with good workouts. Crews and Johnson, both forwards, are not expected to be drafted. Crews played at Tennessee for two seasons, before being dismissed for off-the-court issues.
