A chief of staff to former President George H.W. Bush endorsed Donald Trump on Tuesday, saying he was a candidate of “bold change.”
“Donald Trump is the only candidate in this race who can bring bold change to Washington, D.C.,” former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu wrote in a statement. “I support the Trump-Pence ticket for their pro-growth agenda and commitment to protecting American interests.”

The Cuban-born Sununu, a longtime political operative, served as governor of New Hampshire from 1983-89 and as White House chief of staff from 1989-91.
He served as chairman of the New Hampshire Republican Party from 2009-11, and has long headed the rules committee at the Republican National Convention. His son, John E. Sununu, served as a senator from New Hampshire from 2003-09.
Trump on Monday announced a “Bush alumni coalition” of former officials from both Bush administrations who were endorsing his campaign, an effort to win further support from the establishment wing of the party, but Sununu was not included in that list.
“Republicans, Independents and smart Democrats need to come together to elect Donald Trump and Mike Pence,” Sununu added on Tuesday.
