Washington, D.C.’s annual A Capitol Fourth concert will go on as planned Friday evening despite oppressive temperatures flirting with triple digits, though officials are adjusting event logistics and urging attendees to take precautions as a dangerous heat wave settles over the nation’s capital.
The extreme heat forced the temporary closure of the Great American State Fair on the National Mall on Friday afternoon, with attendees told it would reopen at 5 p.m. The fair, which appeared to have attracted a healthy crowd despite the extreme heat, had earlier been treated to multiple practice run flyovers ahead of Saturday’s extravaganza.
