The Eiffel Tower will be lit in rainbow colors Monday night to show solidarity with the LGBT community following Sunday’s deadly terrorist attack at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida.
“Paris is with Orlando. Tonight, the Eiffel Tower will be illuminated in LGBT colours in homage to the victims,” Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo tweeted Monday.

Hidalgo expressed her “compassion, solidarity and affection” for the American people after the attack on Pulse nightclub that left 50 dead and 53 others injured.
Paris councillors also observed a moment of silence Monday morning, according to AFP.
The lighting of the Eiffel Tower mirrors the world’s reactions to the November terror attacks in Paris that left 130 dead and more than 360 injured. After those attacks, One World Trade Center in New York City — as well as other world monuments — were lit in the colors of the French flag.
The French football team also offered condolences to the Orlando victims, tweeting “sometimes football counts for little. Thoughts for #Orlando.” France is hosting the UEFA European Championship.
